Contemporary art in contemporary spaces. Created by the gallery owner Angelika Watzl and the interior and furniture designer Daute A. Shojaei, THE AP|ART|MENT exhibits modern art in a new context. In the midst of life and in Zurich.
After numerous art salons in Germany, England and the USA, THE AP|ART|MENT celebrates its premiere in Switzerland. For the first time in Zurich, the initiators Angelika Watzl and Daute A. Shojaei are showing two international artists on multiple floors in a new exhibition format. The contemporary art is presented in differently styled private apartments and business offices. The presentation invites visitors to experience artwork in an intimate and personal setting—without the sober walls of a white cube.
From the 4 – 12 June 2021 THE AP|ART|MENT will be presenting P|ART 1 – ZURICH, where recent works of the South African artist KONRAD ROSS and wall objects by the Dutch artist JOHN BREED will be shown.
“Art is most often shown in empty rooms on sober white walls. However, my extensive experience tells me that it’s time to develop fresh exhibition concepts and to discover art in new dimensions.” The long-standing gallery owner Angelika Watzl is now absolutely convinced by her statement.
And Daute A. Shojaei’s enthusiasm for design and his desire to show art in a private atmosphere also motivates him to seek out new paths when addressing art collectors. “Art and design often go hand in hand. An artwork is experienced entirely differently when it is presented in private rooms. The work truly comes alive, and acquires a personal touch.”
The seamless transition between private living space and art exhibition is an essential feature of the event series, which will be presented at other locations in Germany and Switzerland in the future.

Zeitgenössische Kunst in zeitgeistigen Räumen. Mit THE AP|ART|MENT präsentieren die Galeristin Angelika Watzl und der Interior- und Möbeldesigner Daute A. Shojaei moderne Kunst in neuem Kontext. Mitten im Leben und in Zürich.
Nach zahlreichen Kunstsalons in Deutschland, England und den USA feiert jetzt THE AP|ART|MENT in der Schweiz Premiere. Die Initiatoren Angelika Watzl und Daute A. Shojaei zeigen erstmalig in Zürich auf mehreren Etagen zwei internationale Künstler in einem neuen Veranstaltungsformat. Die zeitgenössische Kunst wird in unterschiedlich gestalteten Privatwohnungen und Geschäftsräumen zu sehen sein. Die Präsentation lädt dazu ein, die Werke in einem intimen und persönlichen Umfeld zu erleben. Ohne die nüchternen Wände eines White Cubes.
Vom 04. – 12. Juni 2021 präsentiert THE AP|ART|MENT mit P|ART 1 – ZÜRICH aktuelle Werke des südafrikanischen Künstlers KONRAD ROSS und Wandobjekte des holländischen Künstlers JOHN BREED.
“Kunst wird vorwiegend in leeren Räumen und vor nüchternen Wänden gezeigt. Meine langjährige Erfahrung zeigt mir jedoch, dass es an der Zeit ist weiterzudenken und ein neues Ausstellungskonzept zu etablieren, um Kunst in einer neuen Dimension zu erleben”. Von dieser Aussage ist die langjährige Galeristin Angelika Watzl inzwischen absolut überzeugt. Die Begeistertung für Design sowie der Wunsch, Kunst in privater Atmosphäre zu zeigen, motiviert auch Daute A. Shojaei gleichermaßen zu neuen Wegen in der Ansprache von Kunstliebhabern: “Kunst und Design gehen oft Hand in Hand. Ein Werk entfaltet eine ganz andere Wirkung, wenn es in bewohnten Räumen gezeigt wird. Erst dann wird es wirklich lebendig – und persönlich.”
Der fließende Übergang zwischen Privatsphäre und Kunstausstellung ist ein wesentliches Merkmal der Veranstaltungsreihe, die zukünftig auch an anderen Orten in der Schweiz und Deutschland stattfinden soll.
